How your sign is decided
Your zodiac sign is determined by the position of the Sun at the moment of your birth. The zodiac divides the sky into twelve equal signs, and the Sun travels through one sign roughly every month — which is why each sign has a date range like Mar 21 – Apr 19 for Aries.
Every sign belongs to one of four elements — Fire, Earth, Air, or Water — and one of three modalities: Cardinal (initiators), Fixed (stabilizers), and Mutable (adapters). Together these shape a sign's personality, strengths, and the way it relates to the other eleven.
